About us

Deadwood Farm was established in Lake View Terrace, in the city of Los Angeles Ca. in 1994. The choice of the name has nothing to do with the old western town Dead Wood. One evening during a terrible storm and while we both were at meetings, a huge Eucalyptus blew down in our horse area. It was pure luck that none of the horses were killed as the tree was exactly in the middle of the stalls. My pinto gelding Pegasus tore a tendon in his leg pretty badly, but that was the only damage to the horses. Unfortunately the house did not fare quite so well. The tree was 30 m tall (90’) and it landed on the hay shed, tack-room and then in over the roof of the house. The photo shows the chimney covered in plastic, and the tack room.

Pegasus and Arab friend
My love affair with the American Saddlebred, started with a beautiful part-bred, by the name of Spotted Fewer (Pegasus). Pegasus was registered ½ Arabian and ½ Saddlebred, National Show Horse and Pinto. He was not yet 2 and I still have him at age 20, and he is still ready to try to race anyone. I did endurance on him for many years.

Commander
Dreamers Midnight Commander, our black stallion, was the first purebred Saddlebred horse in our herd.
Even as a 2 year old he was extremely calm. He has an incredible stride and was broke to both saddle and harness in less than 2 weeks and would be driven down a busy highway in the city of Los Angeles on his first drive. An emergency vehicle unfortunately came and the trainer and Mark got a little nervous as the siren got closer, but he just took longer strides and stayed steady and calm, as the vehicle passed.
This is one of the great attributes of the American Saddlebred horse.

Pinto mares & foals
A beautiful pinto Saddlebred horse lets the imagination run free.
