OCTOBER 14

Yesterday we had to say good bye to DWF's Star of Knight (Chico).  He left for Queensland and Andrea and Craig at Mandreica Stud in place of Wild Blossom, who will be available for sale again.

Andrea knows a good horse when she sees one and I know he will be looked after very well up there.

Congratulations Andrea and Craig.

Good news for Deadwood Farm.

Little Lacey is coming to Deadwood Farm from Kat Griffen when she is old enough to travel and the restrictions from EI are lifted.  She is by Sovereigns Midnight Express and out of Celtic’s Sugar and Spice.

Our Mister Bou Jangle is going to Kat Griffen when he is old enough to travel.

On Wednesday, January 9 I left with my granddaughter Victoria for a long planned holiday in Qld.  It is hard to go on holiday when you are running a farm on your own most of the time, so with Mark home from his job, I had booked my tickets and was going for 1 week.  Every day had a plan.

On Thursday 10th I got a call from my son David and he told me that everyone had been trying to get hold of me and we had a bush fire burning behind our property.  Fortunately the wind was not blowing and it was not spreading very fast.  Friday Morning it had changed.  The wind was blowing from the north and sending the fire right for our property.  I called and changed my plans and flew home that afternoon.

To this day I cannot believe how lucky we were.  Our property got singed and the Elvis helicopter put out several grass fires here and there, but not one burned tree.  The horses got used to the helicopter finally and put their heads down and grazed.

The photos show how close the fires were.  One is from right across the road and one is from the back corner of our property and the neighbours property.  Much too close for my liking.

I must give the highest praise to our CFA, and DSE.
